Cânone

O autor Christopher Golden escreveu vários romances do Hellboy. Os dois primeiros, The Lost Army e The Bones of Giants, foram ambos apresentados na linha do tempo oficial da história em quadrinhos, em Hellboy: The Companion, como foi com o conto The Nuckelavee. Além disso, um personagem de Golden, Anastasia Bransfield também foi descrito no The Companion, apesar de nunca ter aparecido em uma história em quadrinhos (embora ela tenha sido referenciada indiretamente em Abe Sapien: The Drowning).

Em uma entrevista de 2017, Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden e Chris Roberson discutiram quais das histórias em prosa eram canônicas. Roberson disse que Ginny (do Outro Lado do Verão) apareceria nos quadrinhos em um flashback, e Golden insinuou que poderíamos ver Anastasia em uma história em quadrinhos futura, embora atualmente não haja nada nas obras.
